WHY SHOULD WE STUDY?

Our religion, Islam, suggests us to study. If we read the history of The Holy Quran, we will find that the first Surah which was given to prophet Muhammad is al-Alaq. In it’s first verse: Iqra’, it means “read” (exclamation). We can surely understand that the order to read means the order to study. Now, I would like to explain you the great reason which shows a question: “Why should we study?”

العَالِمُ كَبِيْرٌ وَإِنْ كَانَ حَدَثًا # وَالجَاهِلُ صَغِيْرٌ وَإِنْ كَانَ شَيْخًا

In actually, who has knowledge is considered a great man. In other word, he can take a possession of a great man in society. Even though this man is still young. And in the opposite, who has no knowledge or stupid man is considered a little one although he is the old man.

We can understand the fact in our society that a stupid man appears to be completely unuseless. He isn’t able to do the high quality things in his life due to his stupidity. People do not respect for him. A clever man is not entirely the same as a stupid. He can get many opportunities to do his best things. Thus, people respect for him.

تَعَلَّمْ فَلَيْسَ الْمَرْءُ يُوْلَدُ عَالِمًا # وَلَيْسَ أَخُو عِلْمٍ كَمَنْ هُوَ جَاهِلٌ

When a baby was born, he didn’t have any knowledge at all. His parent taught him how to walk, how to speak, and how to learn. Based on that statement, we fully understand that every human isn’t born and he has knowledge. The educational process which makes him a clever man or a stupid man. The man who is clever and the man who is stupid are really difference. They have a marked difference in many sides.

 وَإِنَّ كَبِيْرَ القَوْمِ لَا عِلْمَ عِنْدَهُ # صَغِيْرٌ إِذَا الْتَفَتَ عَلَيْهِ الْمَحَافِلُ

The stupid leader who has no knowledge becomes a little man when he meets a group of educated people in some place. His authority will be very low in front of them.

In conclusion, I’m gloriously happy to suggest you about our obligation to study. It’s important for everyone to study because of the benefits of knowledge which help you to get great succesful life in the future. (28^th of March 2013)
